The Weekender, August 12-18: craft fair, film festival, tall ships, sunflowers and more

MANCHESTER, NH – August is already halfway through, but there is still time to adapt these summer activities. Check out the list of activities, events and festivals we’ve organized for you to get out and enjoy the summer sun (or rain).

Multi-day events

League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair, Newbury NH: August 6-14The NH Fair Craftsmen League continues for its final weekend. It’s a paid event, be sure to buy your tickets in advance or in person. You won’t want to miss this!

Arts Build Community Mural Festival, Manchester NH: August 11-21–The first-ever Mural Festival is coming to town! The goal is to provide collaboration through the realization of murals in district 3, which is a major cultural epicenter of the queen city. You can find more information, ideas, how to help, etc. here.

Manchester International Film Festival, Manchester NH: August 12-14 –The Manchester International Film Festival will kick off its first year this Friday August 12 at Rex Theater. For a full schedule of weekend events, as well as day tickets can be purchased here.

Tall Ships, Portsmouth NH: August 12-14-Sail Portsmouth Tall Ships are back for 2022. This is a ticketed event, allowing you to see both major stores, browse exhibitors and more. For more information about this event and how to purchase tickets, see their website here.

Sunflower Festival, Fitchburg MA: August 13-14–Hollis Hills Farm will once again hold its annual Sunflower Festival. This is a paid event, but the small entrance fee allows access to the sunflower field, taking photos and cutting a sunflower. For more information and updates, check out their Facebook page.

August 11

Art after work – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Currier Museum, 150 Ash St., with live music by Paul Nelson. Take advantage of free gallery admission after 5 p.m. to see Gee’s Bend Quilts new exhibit! Enjoy a gallery break at the Winter Garden Café with live music until 8 p.m. The house cocktail of the evening will include limoncello and fresh strawberries for a refreshing treat!

August 13

Manchester NH, Arts and Crafts Fair, Manchester NH– Rain or shine, this free public event will take place at Veterans Memorial Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be food trucks, lots of vendors as well as the Manchester Animal Shelter. An Evening with John Lithgow, Manchester NH–As part of the Manchester International Film Festival, John Lithgow will talk about his career at the Palace Theater from 7.30pm. You can find more information here and buy tickets if you still can!

Gray Wild Blueberry Festival, Gray ME–Celebrating community and culture, Gray Wild Blueberry Festival will be a day full of Maine Wild Blueberry celebrations. This festival is packed with activities, food and more. See more information on how to get thereand one program events of the day.

Fore River Folk Blues & Brews Fest, South Portland ME–A day full of music, food and local beer will take place at Fore River Brewing Company for the Fore River’s First Annual Folk, Blues and Ale Festival. It’s a paid event and your ticket purchase includes a first pint of Fore River!

Diz’s Cafe Second Saturday, Manchester NHDiz’s Cafe, along with other Elm Street businesses, will be participating on the second Saturday. Diz’s will be giving away a free smiley pancake to kids when accompanied by an adult purchasing an item during breakfast hours in honor of Celebrating Happiness Month! August 14

Latin American Festival, Nashua NHThe Latin American Festival will be held at St. Aloysius of Gonzaga Parish from noon to 5:30 p.m. This event will include music, food and the opportunity to share a multicultural experience.

New Hampshire Jewish Festival, New Castle NH–The very first NH Jewish Festival the celebration of Jewish life and culture will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. by the ocean at the New Castle Commons. It’s a paid event which will music, kosher delicrafts, vendors and more.

August 17

Concert in the Park: Soggy Po’ Boys, Manchester NH–The last of the Concerts in the Park Summer Series organized by Manchester Parks and Recreation. The Soggy Po’Boys will take the stage at Veterans Park from 6.30pm in Manchester city centre.

August 18

Live rooftop music with The Brethren, Portsmouth NH–The Brothers will play live music on the rooftop at Envio roof in Portsmouth from 5 p.m. Reservations are encouraged but not required!
