Launch of the first astronaut holoportation and orbital NFTs

Los Angeles, California, Jan. 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — subtractive and Factory Labs introduced the first astronauts to use PORTL holographic devices to interact with the public and showcase their NFTs at the LA Art Show. Dr. Sian Proctor and Ron Garan are the first astronauts (with Nicole Stott) to create NFTs inspired by their experiences in orbit around the Earth. These NFTs, “Seeker” by Dr. Proctor, “Perspective (aka Space Selfie)” and “I-SOAR” by Garan – with built-in animated, spoken and musical elements – can be seen in the PORTL Epic unit in the center of the room congresses.

Dr. Proctor was the pilot of the mission of inspiration4, the first all-civilian orbital flight, and is also the first black woman to pilot a spacecraft. She was recently named to The Explorer’s Club 50: Fifty People Changing the World. Garan is a former NASA astronaut who has flown more than 71 million miles in orbit around Earth and has written three books based on his experiences.

“Seeing myself in the PORTL felt like I was teleporting to the Starship Enterprise,” Garan said.

Both cite the overview effect – the change in perspective a person feels after seeing Earth from orbit, and the inspiration to share the need to protect – as part of the motivation. behind the creation of their artworks and NFTs. The astronauts’ previous NFTs were auctioned off to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The LA Art Show event is the latest to use PORTL as a way to mix interactive appearances from notable people and showcase NFTs. At Art Basel Miami, PORTL presented NFTs and other digital objects in partnership with ArtRepublic, SuperRare, Maxim campaign dance group The Prodigy, Open Earth Foundation, BitBasel, DeadMau5and Micah Johnsonis Aku World. PORTL was also used for NFT display by the NBA champion Danny Green, Nicole Buffettthe Haas Brothers and amfAR at its Cannes gala for Spike Lee.
