Comcast expands network and services to Berks, Chester Counties

Comcast is expanding its service network to include areas of Exeter and Amity Townships and St. Lawrence in Berks County and Honey Brook Borough in Chester County.

In Exeter and St. Lawrence, Comcast said it would make its full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business services available to an additional 8,300 residents.

The process of expanding Comcast’s fiber-rich network is underway, with the first new customers in Exeter Township expected to have service available this fall and the entire project expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

The company did not specify the areas concerned. However, residents of areas that are part of the expansion have been receiving door hangers with information for the past two weeks. They will receive a direct mail once Comcast is close to recruiting customers. At least one affected area is the Farming Ridge development in Exeter.

“We are proud to extend our advanced fiber-rich network deeper into Berks County,” said Greg Wells, vice president of sales and marketing for Comcast’s Keystone region, which serves customers in Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania. West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. “And we’re committed to continuing to innovate across our entire product line and investing in our network, because we know customers rely on us to stay connected at home and on the go.”

Comcast has franchise agreements in the municipalities and currently serves customers in the township of Exeter, although the company cannot say how many. The company said it is always looking for additional areas to provide services where there is clear customer demand.

“Having more choices for reliable, fast Internet connections is important to all of our residents, and we hope that more of them will have access to the Comcast network,” said St. Lawrence Mayor Barrie Kinsey. , in a press release.

Starting this fall, potential customers can call 1-800-XFINITY to inquire about the service or ask about the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides eligible households with up to $30 per month for their Internet and mobile service.

Comcast also plans to expand its network into Amity Township later this year, offering its full suite of services to 8,000 residential and business customers. This project is not as advanced as Exeter Township, according to the company, with construction due to begin in a few months.

Comcast will keep Amity Township residents and businesses informed of the availability of services at their addresses. The company also offers a dedicated site, https://www.welcome2xfinity.com/allowing interested residents to learn more about products and services and sign up for updates.

Borough of Honey Brook

In Chester County, Comcast is expanding its network to Honey Brook Borough to reach 2,000 additional homes and businesses. Comcast’s services are already available to homes and businesses in the Township of Honey Brook.

Construction in this area is well advanced, according to the company, and Comcast has begun recruiting customers. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2022.

“Comcast is committed to helping bridge the digital divide by bringing fast, reliable, and affordable connectivity to more communities across the country, and here in Pennsylvania,” said Dennis Mathew, senior vice president of Comcast’s Freedom Region.

Honey Brook Borough Mayor Maria Downey said the expansion gives residents another option when selecting an internet service provider.

“This expansion will make Honey Brook an even more attractive place to live and work by ensuring access to a reliable network for everyone is more important than ever,” she said in a statement.

Between 2017 and 2021, Comcast said it invested nearly $20 billion to expand its nationwide network and built 50,000 new miles of fiber into its network. And Comcast customers have been able to take advantage of speed boosts at no additional cost, the most recent of which was announced this year, according to the company.

Comcast is also committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves. The company installed 18 lift zones in Berks County, providing free Wi-Fi service to local community centers to promote digital learning. The lifting zones are part of UP project.

According to the company, residents can visit their local Xfinity retail store in Wyomissing, Pottstown or Exton to learn more about products and services.
